And, we’re off…

I wanted to start my posting off right by featuring a little girl who is one of the main reasons that we eat the way we do (the grub), and who also happens to be one of our favorite running buddies (the mud).  Of course, I am talking about Maxy Jean.

We have had Maxy for almost 5 years now, and she will be 6 years old in December.  It is so hard to believe that the crazy, skinny blond fluff ball puppy that we brought home from the SPCA is now nearing middle age and is officially (in dog years anyways) the elder in the house.  She is currently sitting curled up on the futon, with her head rested on the pillow.  Almost exactly like this picture right here.

I don’t want to go on too long, so I thought I would close this post with a list of 11 fun facts that you might not know about Maxy:

11.  Maxy thinks she is a boy dog, and especially after she comes home from a stint at the kennel, she pees on trees with her leg lifted in the air as high as her girl dog hips and other parts will allow.
10. Maxy likes to chase small non-canine animals, although to this day, she has never caught one.  Except for that skunk at David’s.
9. Maxy’s favorite treat layout is called the “trifecta” and it involves a peanut butter treat on one paw, a cheese treat on the other and a little Iams biscuit in the middle.
8.  When the Buffy the Vampire Slayer theme music is on, Maxy will let you play her like a dog guitar.
7.  Maxy has a serious hate for little old ladies that collect empty cans and bottles.
6.  The only vegetable that Maxy will eat is tempura yam pulled out of the middle of sushi rolls.
5.  Maxy’s original name was Ruutu, and she seriously freaks out when you say the word “aruuuuuu-gula” kind of like a vintage car horn.  Coincidence?  I think not.
4.  Maxy’s current favorite TV character is Helo on Battlestar Galactica, played by Tahmoh Penikett (who she says is just not as good as former FBI agent Paul Ballard on Dollhouse).
3.  Maxy’s favorite words are “walk”, “run”, “car” and “books”.  Yes, “books”.
2.  You will never meet a dog who takes food from your hand more gently than Maxy.  Unless your hand is holding an all-meat weiner.
1.  Maxy’s first boyfriend was a huge Bernese mountain dog named Bosley.  We think this is where she got her taste for tall, assertive men.
